Barack Hussein Obama II is an American attorney and politician who served as the 44th president of the United States from 2009 to 2017. He was born on August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii, U.S. A member of the Democratic Party, he was the first African American to be elected to the presidency. Barack Obama graduated from Punahou School, an elite academy in Honolulu, and then attended Occidental College before transferring to Columbia University and earning in 1983 a B.A. in political science. After graduating from Columbia University in 1983, he worked as a community organizer in Chicago. He graduated in 1991 magna cum laude from Harvard University’s law school and was the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review.

During Obama’s presidency, some claimed that Obama had not been born in the United States, which, according to the U.S. Constitution, would have made him unable to serve as president he released his birth certificate to reaffirm that he was born in Hawaii. In 2012, Obama became the first U.S. president to officially sanction same – sex marriage. And he got some awards like Grammy Award twice in a row in 2005 and 2007, Nobel Peace Prize “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.” in 2009, and Profile in Courage Award in 2017.

Barack Obama’s first book, Dreams from My Father in 1995, is the story of his search for his biracial identity by tracing the lives of his now – deceased father and extended family in Kenya. His second book, The Audacity of Hope in 2006, is a polemic his vision for the United States.
